This is most likely the largest collection of Linux wallpapers. Many of the following images are old, and therefore, they often come in low resolution or aspect ratios that are uncommon today. Still, each one is a small piece of digital art that represents a time when the Linux community was all about creativity, collaboration, and fun experimentation. The growing archive of wallpapers is included by default in the Tuxwiz spin, our variant that uses IceWM as a window manager. Tuxwiz aims to combine lightness, speed, and a touch of nostalgia and the wallpapers are an essential part of that experience.
Years ago, we used to collect these backgrounds enthusiastically and shared every new find with friends and fellow enthusiasts. Unfortunately, many of those wallpapers have long since vanished from the web, buried in the digital past. Recovering them has meant a bit of digital archaeology, digging through old archives and forgotten forums. I’m thrilled to say that I’ve managed to recover some real gems.
Of course, there are still many pieces missing, and that’s why I’m reaching out to you. If you’ve been collecting Linux wallpapers over the years, I’d love your help in restoring and preserving them. If you have some wallpapers you want to share, please don't hesitate to contact me. Every contribution helps to bring back a meaningful part of Linux history.
